Students in college and often on their own for the first time, are tempted to cut class now and then. But missing class is one of the best predictors of a poor grade point average. Almost all students who drop out begin the downhill slide by cutting classes with one of the following excuses.
Excuse #1: "They don't cover anything new in class. It's all covered in the book, so why go to class?" First, this is never completely true, and even in review, the instructor gives you a realistic view of how you're keeping up and what's important.
Excuse #2: "I already know what they're going to do." As every "streetwise" student will tell you, no course or class ever runs exactly as announced on the first day. Dates for quizzes and classes change, labs and classes are rescheduled, and teachers get behind in lectures. Don't be the one who says, "Oh no! the test is today?!!"
As Woody Allen said, "Eighty percent of life is just showing up!"
