HOW CAN I HELP, PAPA? A Child's Journey Through Loss and Healing
Written by Elissa Al-Chokhachy
This children's story is about a close relationship between nine-year-old Pumpkin and her grandfather. When her grandfather becomes ill, Pumpkin discovers there are lots of little things she can do to help Papa feel better. She learns invaluable lessons, such as it's okay to express her feelings about a passage that is an inevitable part of life. Pumpkin also learns that love never dies and that what's important is to always follow your heart. This book is about happy times spent together, their journey when Papa gets sick and the process of saying goodbye.
From the perspective of a hospice nurse, the author is able to promote understanding and gently help children and adults move through the inevitable loss of a loved one.
